Analyses: Israel Failed to Cash on Palestinian Blood

On the aftermath of its 22 days of Nazi-like rampage in Gaza killing more than 1200 and wounding more than 5000 people most of them children and women, Israel announced a unilateral ceasefire saying that it was satisfied by a US agreement it had signed to halt arms smuggling to Hamas, thus claiming victory and achieving its Cast Lead operation objectives.
Notice anything wrong with this narrative? First of all, a simple question arises: Why on earth did Israel wage this mad genocide if it only needed an agreement from a more than compassionately willing ally such as Bush’s administration to achieve this outcome? Simple answer: Israel is lying.
The real reason behind this first of its kind unilateral ceasefire in the history of Arab-Israeli wars is that Tel Aviv categorically failed to achieve any outcome except on the side of randomly killing Palestinians.

The self defined objectives of the infamous operation Cast Lead were to better the security of the southern area against Hamas’s rockets, create a new reality in the Gaza strip and stop Hamas form smuggling arms into Gaza. Though extremely general and vague, these loose objectives were not achieved. One other hidden objective which is to repair the image of Israel’s vicious deterrent striking force through terror had also faded as the population of Gaza - no matter how bereaved- were able to stand deeply rooted to their land as opposed to previous times in history.

The war on Gaza was the most viciously sadistic attack by Israelis against Palestinians so far, with fire power beyond imagination even from Israeli veteran commentators themselves, yet for the staggering high number of Palestinians killed and the shear magnitude of destruction inflicted; the outcome is unbelievably disproportionate, more even than that of the power scale between Israel and Hamas.

One could argue that Hamas was dealt a surprising and harsh blow by Israel, but this dose not mount to “creating a new reality in Gaza” unless the real meaning of this is tied to the inhumanely unnecessary genocide.

The reality is still as follows: Hamas is still in control in Gaza, able to strike with rockets to places further than the areas Israel wanted to secure and it did already hours after Israel’s ceasefire. The tunnels are still there and Israel’s Shin Bit says Hamas will rebuild new ones. So the situation is rather back to square one except for one reality that has emerged from the wrath: The resistance option has gained far more validity and support amongst Arabs and Muslims after Hamas has followed suit of the Lebanese Hezbulla in preventing Israel from inflicting terror on the Arab and Muslim psyche.

One can only anticipate a new round as the two parties take a necessary recess for different reasons.

  1. Israel's actions are horrific and terrible. I do not agree with Hamas rocketing Israel - I condemn all acts of violence - but the way Israel has responded is nothing less that a terrorist act and a brutal crime against humanity.

Israel's entire policy with the Gaza Strip and with the Palestinians is criminal as far as I'm concerned.
